Juanita Howard Atkinson, 84, of Chesterfield died Wednesday, April 11, 2007. She was born the daughter of the late Tazewell E. and Bertha I. Howard. She is survived by her husband Charles R. Atkinson; three daughters Nancy A. Dillon and husband Richard, Judy A. Bess and husband Rae, and Gloria A. Strang and husband Raymond; five grandchildren Carol Umbenour and husband Mark, Scott Dillon, Laura Bess, Becky Baugus and husband James, and Angie Strang; four great-grandchildren Dean, Madison, Jack and Katie; two sisters Mavis H. Jenkins and husband Paul and Barbara Kump and husband Charles; a brother Darrell Howard and wife Bertie; and a sister-in-law Justine Howard. She was also preceded in death by her brother Calvin Howard. The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, April 13th from 6 to 8 pm at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Chesterfield Chapel. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 am with interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. I have many memories of Juanita. She and I were very close friends all through grade school. We remained friends in H.S. although not quite as close. I remember especially our sophomore picnic when I didn't have a way she invited me home and she and her friend gave me a ride. I also remember how brave she was when her mother died. It must have been so difficult for a teenager. The last time I saw her was at our High School 50th reunion. She has a large family and I know you all will miss her.
