Corey Austin Winters, age 9, was taken by the angels to be with Jesus on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, after a courageous battle with childhood leukemia. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Prince George County. Born in Suffolk, VA. Corey spent most of his life in Surry and was a student at Surry Elementary School. He loved riding his four wheeler, hunting, and playing Little League baseball.

Corey is survived by his mother, Crystal Michelle Hartless and her companion, Shawn C. Crabtree; his father, Edward “Rusty” Winters; a brother, Jayden Blake Crabtree; two sisters Haley and Ashley Crabtree; maternal grandparents, Joan and Bryan Hartless; paternal grandparents, Lynn Warren and James Winters; uncles, Shawn Hartless, I and fiance Ramona Wheeler, Brandon Winters, Jerrett Winters, Ashton Mattox; cousins, Shawn Hartless, II, Amber Hartless, Shane Hartless, Reva Wheeler, Jamie Winters, Joshua Winters, Justin Winters; great-uncles, Roy Hartless, Harvey Holt, II, Chris Meredith; great-aunts, Deborah Meredith, Dixie Hartless, Debbie Locks; and Best Friend, Anthony “Boo Boo” Harris. He was predeceased by great-grandparents, Laura Taylor Hott and James Cary Hott, Sr., Roy S. Hartless, Sr., Dorthy Holt, Harvey Holt, I, and Ann O’Donnell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes, Wakefield, with the Rev. Connie Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

To assist with funeral and monument expenses, the family asks that memorial donations be sent in care of Purviance Chapel, P.O. Box 727, Wakefield, VA 23888.
