Frederick “Fred” Wayne Butler, 70, passed away at his home on Monday, February 19, 2007, with his family by his side. Born in Surry County, VA he was the son of the late Robert Henry Butler, Sr. and Violet Munford Butler Goodrich. Fred was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Portsmouth Lodge #898, and a former member of Beaverdam Sportsman’s Club. He was a farmer until 1982 and then worked for Spurlock Adhesives until he retired in 1998. Fred owned and operated Butler’s Towing since that time.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Margaret Freeman Butler; three daughters, Pamela Butler Boykin and husband, Charles C. Boykin, Jr., of Wakefield, Lisa Butler Edwards of Chesterfield, and Ginger Butler Tempest and husband, Christopher A. Tempest, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three grandchildren, Charles Wayne Boykin, Brian Wayne Edwards, and Carrie Amanda Tempest; one sister, Esther Wood of Holland, VA; two brothers, Robert Butler of FL, and Thomas Butler and wife, Lillian, of Chesapeake, VA; one half-brother, Ronnie Goodrich and wife, Alice, of Wakefield. He was predeceased by a son, Frederick Wayne Butler, Jr., and a sister, Rose Logan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes, Wakefield, Virginia, with the Rev. Roy Drake and Father Jon Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wakefield, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Pam Boykin. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Vol. Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890 or to the American Cancer Society, % Kathy Worrell, 717 Fairview Dr., Franklin, VA 23851.

Margaret and family, Ours hearts are with sorrow and pain to hear of Fred's passing however, we rejoice to believe that Fred is with the Lord .Knowing Fred many years,first as a farmer and great stewart of the land ,recent years as american towman, Fred was a friend to the industry he served and community he lived.The community will greatly miss his service however,his influence will live on thru his family. I speak for my entire family when i say that Fred will be greatly missed. He was a good friend to my father, and we can only image what they are talking about during their reunion with Jesus. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Margret and all of the Butler family,

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family during this time of sorrow. We are saddened to hear of Fred's passing, and we will continue to pray for strength for you all. While it is hard to express our feelings in words, please know that Doris and I have been there before, and we are here now if you need us.
