Bristow, William E.

William E. Bristow “William Ed”, 90, a longtime resident of Petersburg, died Sunday, February 11, 2007. Born in Dewitt, Virginia October 12, 1916, he was the son of the late James Edward and Rubie May Hawkins Bristow. He was formerly a longtime member of Memorial United Methodist Church and currently a member of Ocran United Methodist Church, where he was an active member and the first Treasurer of the United Methodist Men, a member of the senior adult Sunday school class, and a member of the church administrative board. He was a graduate of Richmond Business College and University of Richmond. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Cryptographic Division of the Signal Corps in the U. S. Army. He was an accountant working for the firms of Harry N. James and Co., and V. Lee Parker & Co. Mr. Bristow was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Graydell M. Bristow and his brother, Richard Y. Bristow. He is survived by his son, Wayne Bristow and wife, Doris of Colonial Heights; two grandsons, Christopher and Brandon; and sister-in-law, Rosa P. Bristow. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Ocran United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene C. Tatum and the Rev. Harry Byrd Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ocran United Methodist Church Building Fund, 20807 Cox Road, Sutherland, VA 23885. Condolences will be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

I remember growing up around the street from William Ed. He was one of the finest men I have every known. A real gentelman. He will be missed by all of us that knew him. Our prayers are with the family at this sad time.
