Garner, James P.

James Paul Garner, 66, of Petersburg, passed away Friday, February 02, 2007. Born in North Carolina, he was the son of the late James Charles and Pauline Ellis Garner. Mr. Garner served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Laffey. Following his service in the Navy, he worked at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company for 21 years and later retired from Wyeth Pharmaceutical Company (formerly A. H. Robins). He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Sarah Smith Garner. He was a great dad and will be deeply missed by his daughters, Beth Snead and husband, David of Prince George, Cathy Stutz and husband, Ricky of Colonial Heights, Joy Parlow and husband, Rodney of Prince George, and Lynne Garner of Petersburg. He was the world’s greatest Pa-Pa to Lindsey Snead, Jordyn Stutz, Jacob Garner, Emily Snead, Jessica Stutz, Lucas Parlow, Samantha Parlow, and Sydney Snead. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth D. Smith of Petersburg; sister, Helen Tyus and husband, Raymond; nieces, Bonny Tyus and Augusta Pool and husband, Jeff all of Richmond; great-niece, Adrienne Spencer and husband, Ben and their children, Grace and Megan; a special friend who was like a son, Ben Fitzwater; his best friend, Sasha (his Japanese Akita); and other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, February 5, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Wesy Chappell, 1117 Fort Hayes Drive, Petersburg, VA 23805. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Sarah and Family,
Jim was a very dear cousin in our family. I will treasure the many times we spent together. He loved each of you so very much, and that's what made him so special. I know you will find comfort in knowing he is in his heavenly home pain free. Take care of each other and cherish all your precious memories.

We are so very sorry about the loss of your father. Even though there is so much pain and sorrow right now, please remember you dad is no longer suffering. The chain may be broken, but you all will be joined again one day.

Sarah and Girls
I can't even begin to tell you how sorry Eddie were to hear that Jim had gone on to be with his heavenly Father. We loved him and will always remember his many kindnesses he has shown to us during our lives.
I have never know a kinder sweeter man in my life. Your loss will will certainly be shared by ALL who knew him. We are so sad and so sorry.

My son Jeff called me today to inform me of Jim's passing. I'm so very sorry.My deepest sympathy to you and your family. My thoughts are with you. We may be 3000 miles apart in but I will always remember the special times we shared.
