Herbert Mitchell, 66, of Petersburg, died January 30, 2007 at his residence. He was the son of the late Herbert Mitchell and Rosa Williams. He was a professional football player as a Running Back for the Oakland Raiders from 1969-1971 and also an active member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1973. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen B. Mitchell of Dinwiddie; son, Kenneth H. Mitchell of Midlothian; daughter, Heather K. Mitchell of Richmond; brother-in-laws, Kenneth W. Alton and wife Pam of Vermont, Lee F. Alton and wife Jan, Kurt R. Alton and wife Nancy all of Massachusetts, Bruce M. Alton and wife Jeanine; nephew, Samuel Alton, niece, Kathleen Alton all of Connecticut, two other nieces, Jessica Alton of Florida, Dorothy Williams of Norfolk and numerous cousins. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2007 at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA. Flowers are welcome however, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Special Olympics. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

I fondly remember Herb and his son Kenny working with us in a boxing scene in the film "First Kid". Herb was always up for anything to do with movies and he was truly in his element on set. He always made me laugh. Bye Mitch.
