Mitchell, Herbert

Herbert Mitchell, 66, of Petersburg, died January 30, 2007 at his residence. He was the son of the late Herbert Mitchell and Rosa Williams. He was a professional football player as a Running Back for the Oakland Raiders from 1969-1971 and also an active member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1973. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen B. Mitchell of Dinwiddie; son, Kenneth H. Mitchell of Midlothian; daughter, Heather K. Mitchell of Richmond; brother-in-laws, Kenneth W. Alton and wife Pam of Vermont, Lee F. Alton and wife Jan, Kurt R. Alton and wife Nancy all of Massachusetts, Bruce M. Alton and wife Jeanine; nephew, Samuel Alton, niece, Kathleen Alton all of Connecticut, two other nieces, Jessica Alton of Florida, Dorothy Williams of Norfolk and numerous cousins. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2007 at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA.
