Nancy,
I was very saddened today when I most accidently happened upon an obit in the Staunton News Leader, originally published March 30, 2007. I had no idea that your Chip had passed away, but am very very sorry to hear about your loss. Although I had met him many years before, this past August was the first time I really talked with him in enough to realize what a fine person/husband he must have been. I sincerely hope that you and your family are aptly coping with this tragic event and my thoughts are with you, your children and their children. I'm sure it's a very tough thing for you and all of them. My most sincere sympathies.... please do not hesitate to let me know if there is anything at all I can do to ease the terrific pain this must have caused all of you.
Sincerely,
Bill Smith

He was the greatest teacher I ever had. Class of 93. I will miss you...
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chip. I have not seen him in several years but I was fortunate to have worked with Chip at Prince George High School. He was kind, generous, thoughtful and always willing to help a student in need. I count myself fortunate, indeed, to have crossed his path.
Our prayers are with you.

We were very saddened to hear about Mr. Washabaugh. He was always very interesting to talk with about Civil War history and helped us out alot with different projects. We spoke about metal detecting our property and only now realize that you have to do things or time will slip away.
We hope and pray you will get through this difficult time. Sincerely, Carter and Sheila Burkey

Even though it has been more then 20 years since I had Mr. Washabaugh as a teacher, I can still recall some of the stories he told us. His was one of the classes I looked forward to attending. He was an excellent teacher. I am very sorry for your loss and will keep your family in my prayers.

I am very sorry to learn of Chip's untimely passing, not something any of us expected. As an administrator at PGHS between 1977-84, my contact with Chip was always positive. Indeed, he was a kind, considerate and caring teacher who quickly gained my respect. It was clear that his students felt the same way, and was evidenced in the rarity of any student discipline matters ever originating within his classroom. He was a friend to many. I consider myself privileged to have been included in that group. He will be missed.
Love, Hugh G. Mumford
We are deeply saddened by your loss. We hope and pray that you are able to find peace in these times of great loss.

I wish to express my sympathy and prayers for your family, for your loss of Chip...my friend and co worker in his many years of teaching at PGHS. He will be greatly missed by me and all he knew there. God bless all of you, Marcia B. Chiarky
I will always remember Mr. Washabaugh as my favorite teacher at PGHS. He loved to share stories with us. I am now a teacher myself in Prince George County and can only hope to have half the impact on my students as he had on me. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Washabaugh and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Washabaugh was one of my favorite teachers at PG. It was so wonderful getting to see both of you at St. Mark's when the church hosted the pre-school families. I know that your faith and memories will keep you strong in this very difficult time. Mr. Washabaugh truly was a special man and will be missed by all whose life he graced! God Bless, Missy (Hale) Gates
