Mrs. Shirley Bury Pettit, 83, of Hopewell, died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Southside Regional Medical Center. Petersburg, VA. She was born in the Enon District of Chesterfield County, VA and was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas John and Ada Lee Cox Bury, and her husband, James Boyd Pettit, Sr. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy P. Tower of Austin, TX, three sons, James Boyd Pettit, Jr. of Baltimore, John L. Pettit of Georgetown, IN, and Thomas E. Pettit of Hampton, VA, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Clara B. Ameen of Hopewell and a brother, Thomas J. Bury, Jr. of Colonial Heights, VA.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 1 p.m. in West Hopewell Presbyterian Church with The Rev. John Lindsay, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester.

Grandma, I miss you already. You are now with your true love and I am sure Grandpa was there at the gates welcoming you with open arms. His strong hands softly holding you as you dance into the sunrise of eternity together. I am honored to be your grandson and I will always remember the strong and soft spoken woman that would smile all the time. The stories of your youth and the new stories we would make together. I will never forget all the time we spent together as I grew up. Thank you for being amazing. Thank you for being my Grandma. I love you.
