Lamantia, Delores G.

Delores Gibson Lamantia passed away on January 6, 2007 at the age of 68. She was born on July 28, 1938 in Petersburg, VA and raised in Prince George, VA where she graduated from Prince George High School. As a child she attended services at the Salvation Army. She was then a lifetime member of Blandford United Methodist Church. Delores was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was the daughter of Louise Aldridge Gibson “Bootsie” and the late Cecil McKoy Gibson, Sr. and the daughter-in-law of Concetta Lamantia of Buffalo, NY, and the late Vincent Lamantia. Delores is survived by Joseph J. Lamantia, her loving and devoted husband of 42 years of marriage, and four wonderful children, Cynthia G. Sanford, Harold F. Sanford, Jr. “Chip” and wife Dr. Kim Sanford, Vincent J. Lamantia and wife Cathy, and Connie L. Hill and husband, Jeff, all of Chester and Chesterfield, VA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren that held her heart in the palm of their hands, Jessica L. Hill, Amanda A. Sanford, Chandler A. Hill, Joseph “McKoy” Lamantia, Kyle V. Lamantia, Joseph “Joey” A. Sanford, Concetta G. Hill, and Luke A. Lamantia. She is also survived by two brothers, Cecil McKoy Gibson, Jr. and Edward Wayne Gibson; two brother-in-laws, James Lamantia and wife, Carol and Stephen Lamantia and wife, Roz, both of Buffalo, NY, and many dear nieces, nephews and first cousins. Delores was predeceased by her first husband, Harold F. Sanford, Sr. and a dear aunt, Brigadier Mary Eupha Gibson who served in the Salvation Army for 39 years and was an inspiration in Delores’ life. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 11 am in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, January 9th from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm. Flowers are welcomed or donations may be made in her name to The Massey Cancer Center at Stony Point, 9000 Stony Point Parkway, Richmond, VA 23235, Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Road, Suite E., Colonial Heights, VA 23834, or Blandford United Methodist Church, 11607 S. Crater Road, Prince George, VA 23875. Family and friends are welcomed to gather at the Lamantia home for food and fellowship following the Interment ceremony. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

No one can take the place of a devoted mother, and only one who has had a like sorrow can understand what you are experiencing. Vince, I was so sorry to hear about your mom. As you know, I lost my mom last January and it was really tough for me. I can tell you it may get easier as time goes by but you will never forget them. Always remember how wonderful and loving they were. Stuart and I will have you and your family in our prayers as you go through this difficult time.
