Virginia Evans “Honey” Reece of Petersburg died Friday, January 5, 2007 at the age of 94. Honey, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Donnan Hamilton was born on October 16, 1912. She grew up in Petersburg and graduated from Longwood College. She was one of five children, all of whom preceded her in death. In 1934 she married Roy T. “Bus” Evans and became a military wife. As an Army wife, Honey lived around the world, raising a family of three sons who all followed their father to West Point and became career Army officers. Honey’s caring, sunny disposition and adaptability greatly influenced her sons; there was never a question of who was in charge. After retiring from Army, Honey and Bus returned to Petersburg. Sadly, Bus died in 1976. Honey later met and married Joseph M. Reece, and they spent many happy years together before his death in 2006. Honey is survived by her sons, Roy T. “Sandy” Evans and his wife, Virginia of Richmond and Alexander H. Evans and his wife, Anne of Tampa, Florida. Her son, John G. “Jack” Evans preceded her in death. Also surviving are five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 11 am in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 Walnut Blvd., Petersburg, VA 23805.
