NELL HOLDSWORTH MATTHEWS, 99, a resident of Claremont, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell, VA. Born in Sussex County she was the daughter of the late Robert Holdsworth and Lottie Johnson Holdsworth. She was predeceased by her husband, James William Matthews.

She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Matthews Johnson and husband, Clarence; a son, Wade Matthews and wife, Donna, all of Claremont; five grandchildren, James Johnson, Renee' Johnson, Jeff Johnson and fiance, Diane Carter, Robbie Matthews and wife, Shanna, and William Matthews; four great-grandchildren, Hinton Matthews, Emily Matthews, Ross Carter and Ashleigh Carter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Wakefield, VA., with Pastor Gary Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Virginia.
