Condolences

Gillis was my mother's cousin. Gillis' mother, Louise, was my grandfather's sister. I only met him a few times, but I remember my mother telling me about his military history, and his love of teaching. I also remember his devotion to his parents and to my grandparents (his aunt & uncle). I have pictures of him with his parents that I would be willing to share with his children. I hope to attend the memorial in Milwaukee on December 23rd.

Mr. Schoknecht was my history teacher when I was in the seventh grade at Walnut Hill Elementary '68-'69. We were fascinated watching him walk around the class with the coffee he'd poured from his thermos. He helped open out eyes about voting and how we would one day be the people who were running this great nation--something many of us had not yet begun to think about. "Well, you'd better get ready for it because it is coming." As usual, he was right!!
Except for our PE teacher, Mr. Seabolt, we'd never has a male teacher before, so we were quite a challenge, and one he met with ease.
I was blessed to have had him as one of my teachers. My sincere condolences to his family.

Warmly,

Lynn Newsom
