Cox, Virginia

Virginia Lewis Cox, age 89, a resident of Shingleton Rd., Waverly, died Tuesday Nov. 7, 2006 in a Suffolk hospital. Born on Sept. 11, 1917 in Sussex County, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Lewis and Martha "Patty" Winfield Lewis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Waverly Congregational Christian Church. She was the widow of George A. Cox whom she married on Aug. 12, 1936 and with whom she shared 61 years of marriage and life on their farm until his death on June 14, 1997. She is survived by two sons, George Dwayne Cox and his wife, Micki, and Keith Cox and wife, Billie, both of Waverly; three daughters, Joyce Cox Harwell of Waverly, Selma Cox Crabtree of Petersburg, and Bernardine Cox Koslow and husband, Kenneth, of Richmond; 14 Grandchildren, Robin, Joanne, Kimberly, David, Lorne, Shawn, Bryan, Angela, Chandler, Randall, Jory, Aaron, Jason, and Kelly, and 15 great grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Knepper of Broadway, Virginia, Helen Sturdivant of Richmond; two brothers, Gordon Lewis and wife, "T", and Roy Lewis, both of Stony Creek, VA. She was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Mayes, and a brother, Garnett Lewis. A funeral service will be held in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Friday Nov. 10, 2006 at 2:00 PM by Pastor Joy Heaton. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Waverly. The family will be at the home, 36135 Shingleton Road,Waverly Va. Memorial donations may be made to the Spring Hill Cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 636, Waverly, VA 23890.
