Lena Chafin Compton, age 88, of Hopewell, VA, died on Friday, September 22, 2006. She was the widow of J. L. Compton, and a member of West End Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She is survived by three children, Carolyn C. Houser and husband LeRoy of Chesterfield, VA, Paul M. Compton and wife Susan of Prince George, VA, and B. Mark Compton and wife Connie of Rio Rancho, NM; three sisters, Reva Barnett of Hopewell, Delores Collins of Stanhope, NJ, and Gail Blankenship of Statesville, N.C.; two brothers, Earl Chafin of Coalwood, WV, and Everett Chafin of Junction City, KS; five grandchildren, Eric Houser, Shelly Jenkins, Chris Compton, Beth Matthews, and Andrew Mackenzie; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Hopewell on Monday, September 25, at 1 p.m. with funeral services following at 2 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Virginia Voice at P.O. Box 15546 Richmond, VA 23227, or to West End Presbyterian Church of Hopewell. Carolyn and family, so sorry to read about the loss of your wonderful mom. You have been blessed to have had her for such a wonderfully long time. Think about you so often and would love to see you. Carolyn,I am so sorry at your loss and yet you were very lucky to have had your mother for so long...It is always difficult to lose our mothers, it is like part of us. Think of you ofter. Doris S. Hannon
