Layne, Henry L.

Henry Lee Layne, 78, of Colonial Heights, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2006 at his residence. Born in Richmond, he was the son of Maude Adams Elson and the late John Henry Layne. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea serving with the Merchant Marines and the U. S. Army. Mr. Layne retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company after 33 years of service and he was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances J. Layne; daughter, Donna Layne Gattis and husband, Alan; grandchildren, Melissa Peterson, Danielle Peterson, and Jay Gattis all of Colonial Heights; sister-in-law, Alma Mae Elko of Petersburg; brother-in-law, Leroy Jarratt and wife, Shirley of Dinwiddie; an aunt, Lillian Bullard of Petersburg; and other loving family members. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 23, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Mike Murray officiating. Entombment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Henry & I shared many projects together & many happy times together he was a true friend, someone who I could share my thoughts with I will miss him . Tommy
