Morrow, Dr. Kenneth

Morrow, Dr. Kenneth Albert of Chesterfield, VA was a victim of a robbery/homicide on July 19, 2006. This charismatic, humorous and generous man was born September 22, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Kenneth D. and Elizabeth Latham Morrow. He graduated from McKenzie High School, Detroit, MI, where he excelled in all sports, most notably football. He graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Wayne State University, received a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University and more recently, his Doctor of Education. Dr. Morrow served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was accepted into the United States Secret Service, where he served with honor during the Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson administrations. He received the Treasury Department’s highest award, the Exceptional Service Award, in 1964, for Courage and Valor Under Fire in the Apprehension of a Fugitive. He left the Service and established one of the earliest criminal justice programs for police officers in the United States at Calumet College in Whiting, Indiana. He taught and served as the Department Chairman for many years. His talents extended to the judicial arena where he served as Court Administrator for Indiana Lake County Superior Court under the late Honorable John McKenna. Dr. Morrow returned to active military duty in the United States Navy in 1982, serving as the substance abuse counselor for a “carrier group“, retiring from the Navy Reserves. He was a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in Virginia. He developed his own program, CADES, Cognitive Alcohol Drug Education Services. In this role, he worked with the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) and the courts, educating and counseling alcohol abuse offenders. Left to treasure his memory: his wife of 32 years, Mary Ann (Beres); daughter, Stephanie and son-in-law Richard Davis of Pittsboro, NC and three grandchildren, Soren, Gretchen and Frey, with a new one expected in October; his aunt, Florence Nolan of Trenton, Michigan; his sister-in-law, Irene Riggio and her daughter, his niece, Staci Horn of Chicago; brother-in-law and his wife, Stephen and Susan Beres of Fort Wayne, IN. Ken’s happiness and commitment was in sharing the hope and promise of Alcoholic Anonymous. It gave him joy and renewed gratitude to give back what others had shared with him 27 unforgettable years ago. We will miss him every moment until we meet again. Please remember us in your prayers.
