Davis,Jr. Sterling E.

Sterling Ernest Davis, Jr. 84 of Dinwiddie County, VA, passed away at Chippenham Hospital on Thursday, July 20, 2006. He is survived by his three sons; James S. Davis(Germantown, MD), H. Allen Davis and wife, Mary Totin (Fairfield, VA) and Gregory E. Davis and wife, Beth Graves Davis (Colonial Heights, VA) and by his grandchildren; Logan, Lauren, Adam and Dawn Davis and Lauren and Emily Minton; sister, Elizabeth Davis Hartman of Petersburg; sister-in-law, Helen Harvey Bass of Skippers, VA, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Beulah Harvey Davis, and by two of his sisters; Ruby Davis Bixby and Alma Davis Rowe. Mr. Davis grew up in Petersburg, VA and was the son of Sterling Ernest and Myrtie Rogers Davis. He was a devoted husband, father and caregiver. He was a WWII Army veteran. He completed careers as a grocery store owner-operator and as a USPS rural letter carrier. He was active in the Virginia and National Rural Letter Carrier Association, including serving as an annual delegate as well as State President. He was an active member of West End Baptist Church, singing in the choir and serving as deacon. Previously he was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he was a sunday school department head, member and chairman of the Board of Deacons and choir member. He was an active member and past President of Gerow Ruritan Club; a member of Blandford Masonic Lodge #3 AM & AF. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Monday, July 24, 2006 at West End Baptist Church with burial to follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm Sunday in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West End Baptist Church, 6506 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, VA 23805 or the charity of your choice.
