My husband and I would like to express our condolences.
We met Tommy while we were on the emergency crew and we are both proud to call him a friend
It is not often someone touches so many peoples lives.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
What a privilege it has been the last 14 years knowing Tommy Tygrest!! I had the wonderful opportunity working with him during the 5 years that I was on the Hopewell Emergenct Crew. While I was preparing for my State Board test, he knew how nervous I was and would finish working a 24 hour shift at the Fire Dept., come to the Crew Building and spend another 3 or 4 hours helping me get ready for the test.
Tommy is exclusively responsible for what became my nickname while on the Crew. One afternoon, I had just pulled 36 hours of Crew Duty and it had been an extremely busy day and a half. Tommy came down to the Crew Building and there were probably 6 or 7 people just hanging out in the front room just telling stories and jokes. Well we all know what a comedian Tommy was...he was telling this joke, and as he came to the "punch line", the entire room roared with laughter, except from me...I was so "out of it" from being up for so long, that I just looked at Tommy with that 'deer in the headlight' stare and quietly said..."I don't get it." At that very moment, that well-known broad smile stretched across his face as he said, "You know...Kelly is the perfect name for you to have....because right now, you remind me of Kelly Bundy (from "Married With Children"), and that's going to be your Crew nickname." Oh how right he was!! It stuck like glue...to the point of during a crew call that I was on with the Captain (at the time) Ernie Gray, Ernie yells to me, "Bundy! Get me a back board!" It was embroirdered on my jumpsuit, my crew hat....I was, for 5 years, known only as 'Bundy'. Thanks Tommy! Thank you for your fabulous sense of humor, your honesty, and your genuine friendship....you will be truly missed, dear friend.
I met Tommy through "the girl I'm going to marry", as he called her. Tommy was a gregarious person, one who would tease and play...never without a come-back better than mine. His involvement in the squad, among many other organizations, showed his love and compassion for people and his desire to help others in any way that he could. I sincerely hope that it brings comfort to close friends and family to know that Tommy is in the arms of God now and that he had, indeed, found the love of his life before passing through the doorway to eternal peace. My prayers to all who adored him.
Tommy and I grew up together, working for Carl's Hess Station and then both for the City of Hopewell. Tommy on the Fire Dept and me with the Police Dept.If we weren't pulling pranks on each other, we were teaming up and pulling them on someone else. Tommy is the man who gave my wife Kelly her nickname, but I'll let her tell that story- lol. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and my heart knows Tommy and I will get to rat race cars and joke together again one day when I join him. Gonna miss you brother, love ya, Dave
To the Tygrest family, My prayers and thoughts are with u . There are no words to descibe what you are going through, but i pray that god leads you in a beutiful way. Tommy was a very good person and very careing. He will be greatly missed. God bless
At times like this it's sometimes hard to find the words to say. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
We wish you comfort in your time of sorrow.
John & Sandra Hedrick
To Tommy's loved ones. I've had the pleasure of knowing Tommy the last 18 years. I was on the Hopewell Emergency Crew with him. Tommy was a fun person to be around. He was quite a character, pulling harmless pranks or just making people laugh by being silly. He was a caring and decent human being and I am proud to have called him my friend. My, husband, Jim Hardy, also knew Tommy from the crew. We would like to express our condolences and let you know that we will be praying for you.
