Chariton, Raymond C.

Raymond C. Chariton, 83, died June 13, 2006. Born August 15, 1922 to Nina and Charles Chariton in Rhinelander, WI, graduated from high school in 1940. Joined the U.S. Air Corps in January 17, 1941. Completed twenty one years of active duty. Retired as a Major in 1962 as (Lt. Col. Reserve) served in World War II and Korean War. He is survived by his wife Adele; sons, Raymond M. and Mark C.; daughter, Lynn M. Clark; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was an avid golfer who had seven holes in one. He also made sure his grandchildren had golf clubs. Military service assignments - 42 months in Panama, 16 months in Korea, also served two tours in Germany, one as a Captain and one as a Department of Civilian. After military retirement, became a Dept. of Army Civilian, assigned to Ft. Lee Army Troop Support Agency. Served a tour in Germany as a Dept. of Army Civilian. He served on the Army project board for the transfer of the Panama Canal. He made several trips to Panama until the transfer was completed. Graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, June 16, 2006 in Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, VA with full military honors. Ray was a golfing buddy for many years. He was a good player and friend. I, and all the guys at the Cardinal Golf Club, will miss him very much.

We will miss Ray's smiles and his kind words to all of us at the Fort Lee Thrift Shop. May God bring peace to your hearts. Ray was a wonderful person and he will be missed.
