Bristow, Richard Y.

We are saddened by the loss of our loved one, Richard Y. “Dick” Bristow, 86, of Prince George County, who departed this life Sunday, May 28, 2006. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late James E. and Rubie May Hawkins Bristow. He was a 1937 graduate of Petersburg High School and was a 1941 graduate of the University of Richmond majoring in Business Administration. Dick served in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during WWII and was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Seargent. He was the retired owner of Bristow’s Service Grocery on West Washington Street in Petersburg and had continued to work at the store until his death. He was a member of the Newville United Methodist Church and is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rosa Leigh Padgett Bristow; a son, A. W. Adams, III and wife, Nancy; a daughter, Gail B. Rollings all of Prince George; a brother, William Edward Bristow; a grandson, Dennis H. Rollings, Jr. and wife, Amanda; a granddaughter, Lisa Ragas Evans and husband, Michael; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Bristow family will receive friends at their residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 31, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Beverly J. Nelan officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Newville UMC, 9014 Hines Road, Disputanta, VA 23842. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

I have so many memories of Mr. Bristow at the Store and at Memorial Methodist Church. Just want the family to know that we are with them in prayer.
