Sheffield, Alvin L.

Alvin Lee Sheffield, 74, of Colonial Heights, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 22, 2006. He was predeceased by his parents Lee and Alice Sheffield, two sisters Katherine and Dorothy Baxton, and one brother Luther Bosher. He is survived by his devoted loving wife of 52 years, Margaret (Mickey) K. Sheffield; and his three children and their spouses; Kimberlie and Billy Cheshire of Richmond, VA., Gwenda and Jerry Zaleski of Pittsburgh, PA., and Barry and Janette Sheffield of Denver, Co. He is survived by six grandchildren, Jamie and Kara Cheshire, Jaysen and Jerett Zaleski, and Megan and Ryan Sheffield and one brother Charles Snyder of LaGrange, NC. Alvin was a former owner of L.A. Sheffield Transfer and Storage and on the Board of Directors of The Community and South Trust Banks. He was an active member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and on numerous committees. Alvin was a member of the Country Club of Petersburg and many other civic and social organizations, among them Cosmopolitan Club, TPA, Lions Club, Up the Hill Gang, Jaycees and the White Point Association. He was a graduate of Petersburg High School and attended Mars Hill College and the University of Richmond. Alvin was an avid gardener, fisherman and Spider fan, where he was a former member of the Spider Club. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 am Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Walnut Hill Baptist Church. Entombment in Southlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or Walnut Hill Baptist Church, 310 South Boulevard, Petersburg, VA 23803. I just learned of Alvin's passing and want to extend my deepest condolences to you and your family. You both helped the Petersburg Relay For Life in so many ways. He will surely be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR OF ALVIN'S PASSING. HE WAS A GREAT MAN AND I HAVE MANY FOND CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY.I WILL NEVER FORGET THE TIME TIPPY GOT SPRAYED BY THE SKUNK AND ALVIN AND MICKEY HAD TO BATH HIM IN TOMATO JUICE. HE WILL SURLEY BE MISSED AND THE RIVER WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
