Maxey, Shirley H.

Shirley Holmes Maxey, 71, of Chesterfield, VA died May 1, 2006. After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, she is finally at peace with the Lord. Mrs. Maxey was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond T. Holmes, Sr. and Alma Turner Holmes, and a brother, Stanley R. Holmes. She is survived by her husband of forty-six years, Henry “H. D.” Maxey, Jr.; four children, Alan H. Maxey and wife Diane of Mechanicsville, VA, Brenda M. Vay and husband Bryan of Chester, VA, Sheri L. Jordan and husband Jamie of Powhatan, VA, and Kathy G. Hayden and husband Bruce of Leesburg, VA; twelve grandchildren, Cameron, Chase, Meredith, Hunter, Eric, Lindsey, Owen, Emily, Andrew, Zachary, Tyler, and Caroline; three brothers, Raymond T. Holmes and wife Evelyn of Amelia, VA, Preston T. Holmes and wife Rachel of Chesterfield, and Stuart E. Holmes of Chesterfield; a brother-in-law, Winston P. Maxey and wife Pat of Richmond, VA; one aunt, Kathleen Sanderson of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. Until her retirement in 1999, Shirley worked full-time at The Boy Scouts of America; she loved working there and truly loved her co-workers. They have remained close to her even after her retirement. Shirley was a long-standing member of Bon Air Baptist Church. Although she was unable to attend church in recent years due to her illness, her church and God were always in her heart. Shirley’s family would like to thank all of her friends and her church community for their love and support over the past several years. Your consistent visits meant the world to Shirley. A Memorial Service and reception will be held in her memory at Bon Air Baptist Church on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or The Boy Scouts of America Heart of Virginia Council, 4015 Fitzhugh Ave Richmond, VA 23230. HD, I was so sorry to hear about Shirley's death. I live in Calabash NC now and do not get the Richmond paper. If I had known Shirley was that sick I would have come to see her when I was at Sandy. She was really a good person.
