Mayes, Jr. William L.

William Lester Mayes, Jr. age 82 of Petersburg died Monday, May 1, 2006. He was the son of the late William Lester, Sr. and Marie Gibbs Mayes and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Jamerson of Appomattox. He is survived by his wife, Doris G. Mayes; four children, Ann Wright, Shirley Cornett and her husband John, James Mayes and his wife Cathy and Robert Mayes; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Mayes was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Eagles, a life member of Woodmen of the World and a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of WWII. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 3 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
