Harrell, Howard G.

Retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Howard Gray Harrell, 76 of Dewitt passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006. Born in Sussex County, Virginia he was the son of the late Ollin T. Harrell and Lura Harrell Wallace. In addition to his service in the U.S. Navy he was a retired boiler operator for Park 500 Phillip Morris. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 637, Dinwiddie Moose Lodge #1993, Dewitt Rocky Run Ruritans and an honorary member of the Rocky Run Hunt Club. Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Townsend Harrell, a sister Thelma Harrell Welch and two brothers Franklin D. and Major T. Harrell. Mr. Harrell is survived by his wife, Joyce S. Harrell; sons, Kenneth R. Harrell and wife, Donna S. Harrell of Dewitt, Robert M. Harrell and wife, Tammy M. Harrell of Dewitt; daughter, Barbara H. Thiessen of Winter park Florida; stepdaughter, Irene Buskey and husband David of McKenney, VA; stepson, James Douglas Quesinberry of Dinwiddie; five grandchildren, Amber H. Hollowell and husband, John, Lura M. Harrell, Kevin Harrell, Andrew Denis, Crystal L. Lambert and a great granddaughter, Sydney C. Lambert. Also surviving are four brothers, James A. and Alvin S. Harrell of Dewitt, VA, Ollin F. Harrell, Jr. of Chester, VA and Edward Harrell of Church Road, VA; four sisters, Dorothy H. McDowell of Petersburg, VA, Beatrice H. Padgett of Hopewell, VA., Loretta H. Lucy of Dewitt, VA., Peggy H. Peck of Wakefield, VA and a long time friend Mike Kittrell of Dewitt, VA. Graveside services and Military Honors will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, May 1, 2006 at Rocky Run United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 pm Sunday, April 30, 2006 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dinwiddie Emergency Services, P.O. Drawer 70, Dinwiddie, VA 23841, Rocky Run United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund or the Dewitt Rocky Run Ruritans. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Dear Bobbie,

So sorry to hear about your father. I'm sure he was a wonderful man, because you're one of the nicest people it has been my privilege to know. I think about you often, since VCU.
May you be comforted in your time of loss, and if there's anything I can do, I'm here.
