Elizabeth and my mother were best of friends for years and ended up together in the Petersburg Ladies Home for about 5-6 years. I always included Elizabeth when I visited my mom at the Home. I live in Houston, TX, so the visits, understandably, were not often. Ellizabeth sent me clippings from the local newspapers about happenings in the tri-city area; she entertained me for lunches; she toured me around Dinwiddie and Colonial Heights. We enjoyed exchanging correspondence. Those things I will miss and I know all her closer associates will grieve her loss. So long Elizabeth. Bob Zurik
Elizabeth was a gracious and generous woman, a true southern lady for whom I held in such high regard. Loved her letters to me and my family in Charlotte. Will miss that correspondence and seeing her at family functions. She was a dear, dear member of the Driskill family and will be greatly missed. May she be at peace. John & Dana Corsi (grandaughter of Marshall Driskill)
My Sunday morning was shattered when I learned of the passing of Mrs. Driskill. For years, she and I had an ongoing correspondence, both in person when I was in Petersburg, and later when my husband and I moved to Anchorage, Alaska. (I was previously the managing editor of The Progress-Index. We met when she was helping her friend, Sunny Kim.)
We later became good friends and she hosted me on more than one occasion at her church and to speak to her seniors group there. She called me "the other Elizabeth."
We corresponded quite often during the year and she never failed to clip interesting articles from the newspaper and send them to me. As a matter of fact, we had planned a meeting when my husband I were to visit our children in Virginia during the Christmas season. Unfortunately, he was taken ill and our trip had to be delayed. That was my last correspondence with her.
To her family, please know what a wonderfully warm woman she was, thoughtful, caring and the personification of Southern hospitality and gentility.
Words fail me as I try to tell you how much I will miss her. Had I known of her death prior to Sunday I would have flown back for her services. My prayers are with you all.
I've known Mrs. Driskill nearly all of my life. As a little girl, I remember her living one street over. Until we moved to Georgia, we were fellow members at Immanual Baptist Church. Mrs. Driskill was a fellow resident with my mother at the Petersburg Home for Ladies. She loved her God, her church, her family, and her many activities.
I am saddened by Mrs. Driskill's passing. She has touched so very many lives and she will be greatly missed.
