Tynes, Jr., Thomas Ward

Thomas Ward Tynes, Jr., 80, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2005 at Tandem Healthcare at Williamsburg. A lifelong resident of Surry County he was the son of the late Thomas Ward Tynes, Sr. and Mattie Edwards Tynes. Ward was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving his country in WW II; a retired agent for State Farm Insurance Companies; a former Surry Ruritan; was a past president of the Surry County Educational Foundation; served on the Surry County Electoral Board for over 40 years; and was a member of Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church, Elberon, VA. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Worrell Tynes, and his sister, Anne T. Seward.

Mr. Tynes is survived by his three daughters, Jeannie T. Edwards and husband, David, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Janet T. Seward and husband, Elton, of Elberon, VA., and Kathryn T. Lane and husband, Richard, Surry, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Lane Bolton, Meredith Edwards McNamee, Carolyn Lane Edwards, Patrick Tynes Edwards, Jonathan Baxter Seward, Elizabeth Ward Seward, Daniel Philip Lane, Rebecca Anne Lane, and Michael Andrew Lane; and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Lauren Bolton, Brandon Christopher Bolton, Logan Michaela McNamee, and Corey Austin Edwards.

Funeral services will be held at Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church, Elberon, on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Eddie Heath officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6:30 until 8:00 p.m., at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to the Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5900 Beechland Rd.., Elberon, VA 23846. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, assisted the family with the arrangements. Please accept our condolences on the passing of Mr. Tynes. Woody and I remember him fondly from church and as our insurance agent as well. He always had a ready smile for us. Our love and prayers are with you and yours.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. You will be in my heart and prayers. I have been a State Farm agent for 29 years, and remember Ward very well. Always a gentleman, always ready with a smile and a quip. I remember he loved to work on doll houses for his grandchildren. I am sure he will be missed.
