Condolences

My husband and I knew Paul for many years through
the ATC. We hung out together for many conferences and when we began to get too old to hike much, instead, went on the excursions. He tried to get us to join the C&A Assoc. but we never got around to it, besides living in N.C. I first met him in Cullowhee when our club had the conference at WCU. His room was down from mine and had a pair of drawn big feet on the door which intrigued me. Later, when I met him, I could see why. He was always full of fun, sensitive to every situation and a good friend. The world will be a duller place without him.

I would like to express my condolences to you and your family. I just found out about Paul's passing. I remember Paul from my early childhood, infact, he was a great friend of my family and was there when I came home from the hospital after my birth in 1961. My brother Jay Votel will try to make the service at Arlington to represent our family. Paul was a great man and will be missed. You are in my prayers,
James Votel

I knew Paul from HealthSteps at Bates College in Maine. I was his walking instructor for many years. He delighted all of us at the 6 am morning walks, and there was never a dull moment with Paul around. He had many friends here, and we were sad to have him leave Maine. I know through his wife's many e mails that he went through lots with his illness over the past couple of years. My thoughts are with you. He is a great memory to us I am greatful to have known him.
