Cowden, John P.

John Patrick Cowden, 78, of McKenney, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at his residence. A native of Wise County, VA, he was the son of the late Hyatt and Lillie Pearl West Cowden and was also predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Cowden served his country in the United States Army during World War II, was a retired civil service employee with Fort Lee and attended Elm Street Baptist Church where he was a member of the Kennedy Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Rivers Cowden; daughter, Dr. Michelle Lynn Cowden of Altoona, PA, formerly of McKenney; a brother, James Cowden and wife, Jeannie of Cobbs Creek, VA; a sister, Nell Miller of Norton, VA; sister-in-law, Judy Talmage and husband, John of Dinwiddie and their children, Robbie Talmage, Sherrie Wells and Cindy Sessums. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service tonight from 7 to 8:30 pm. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 pm Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Asbury Memorial Cemetery in McKenney, VA.
