Butterworth, Ivan M.

Ivan McDowell “Mac” Butterworth, 90 of Dinwiddie, died Monday, July 18, 2005. A native of Dinwiddie, he was the son of the late Hamilton David and Gertrude Thomas Butterworth. He was preceded in death by his brothers George Lunsford Butterworth and Hamilton David “Cooner” Butterworth, Jr. He was retired President and co-owner of B.T. Hargrave Co., Inc. In his younger years he worked in Richmond at Armour Meat Company, and Philip Morris. He served in WWII in the U.S. Army 1st Division “Big Red One”, took part in E.T.O., three landings; Casablanca, Sicily and Normandy; was at Kasserine Pass, in “The Battle of the Bulge” and other operations. A faithful communicant and Junior Warden of Calvary Episcopal Church, Dinwiddie for many years, he was also a member of Dewitt Rocky Run Ruritan Club, a member of Rocky Run, McKenney, Old Hickory and Rowanty Hunt Clubs and an active participant in the American Legion Post # 149. After retirement, he enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beloved beagles and fishing on his ponds with his friends. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eva Courtney Butterworth; son, Ivan McDowell “Butter” Butterworth, Jr. and wife, Susan of Dinwiddie; daughter, Mildred Courtney Hicks and husband, Daniel of Richmond; grandchildren, Ellen Chiles Hicks and Jo Catherine and Brittany McDowell Butterworth; sister, Mary Elizabeth Parsons and husband, G.L. of Stony Creek and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, July 22, 2005 at the Butterworth Family Cemetery, Butterworth, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 pm Thursday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family would like to thank all the friends and caregivers who supported Mac during his recent illness. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, P.O. Mrs. Butterworth, "Butter", Susan, Jo Catherine and Brittany,
I was so sadden to hear about "Mac". He was such a sweetie and a charactor if there ever was one. What a wonderful person. Even though he is no longer with us he lives on in you and in our memories of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morining light. May God be with you and your family, as He has always been, at this time. Rest assurd that being in the arms of Jesus is so comforting.

Our Prayer's and thought's are with you Mrs.Eva and Butter and your Family and Courtney and your Family. I know you will miss Mr.B as will we he touched our hearts in a way that he will always be remembered in our hearts.
Thank you for being such a wonderful family to work for and for letting us be a part of Mr.B 's
life he was a wonderful man.
