Mary J. Gormley, 84, of Chester, died Saturday May 14, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Robert & Pearl Roby James, the widow of Richard P. Gormley Sr., and was predeceased by a son Richard P. Gormley Jr. Mrs. Gormley was retired from Southside Regional Medical Center. She is survived by two daughters, Susan G. Gammon and husband Michael of Chester, Anne G. Hopkins and husband Barry, of Cato, New York, two sons David R. Gormley and wife Faye of Richmond, John R. Gormley of Carson, daughter-in-law Debbie C. Gormley of Prince George, sister Josephine J. Slate of Petersburg, brother Ira Vernon James of Colonial Heights, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday May 17, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral will he held in the chapel 11:00 AM Wednesday May 18, 2005. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bensley Bermuda Rescue Squad P.O.Box 657 Chester, Virginia 23831. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR MOM I WENT TO HCP TODAY 5/18/05 AND THE STAFF TOLD ME. I WAS TOO LATE FOR THE FUNERAL, BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW I AM A PHONE CALL AWAY. I'LL NEVER FORGET YOUR LOVE SHOWN TO ME AT THE LOSS OF MY MOM. I AM HERE FOR YOU AS WELL. I WILL KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN MY PRAYERS. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I have been told that during this time in your life you feel orphaned. I hope you can remember the fact that you were blessed for so many years with her and try not dwell on her physical body no longer being with you. Your memories will be with you forever! Love Donna
