Rainey, Jr. Moyland G.

Moyland Gibson Rainey, Jr., 84, son of the late Moyland G. and Fannie O. Rainey of Sutherland, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005. Bud, as he was known by his many friends, was a retired farmer, having farmed for many years in Dinwiddie County. He graduated from Carson High School and entered the Virginia National Guard and was called to active duty in 1941. He served in the 1st Aircraft Assembly Squadron of the Army Air Corp. During World War II, he was stationed in North Africa and Southern Europe. Upon his return to the states he returned to the family farm in Sutherland where he met and married Elizabeth Pilout Flowers who survives him. He was a longtime member of Ocran United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for some years. Also surviving are sons, James Garriss Flowers and wife Margie of Dinwiddie and Moyland Gilliam Rainey and wife Sara of McDonough, GA. He leaves two brothers, Epes Rainey of Petersburg and John P. “Jack” Rainey of Sutherland; sister, Virginia Cromwell of Springfield, VA.; four grandchildren, Robin Flowers Green, Elizabeth Leigh Flowers, Moyland Gilliam Rainey, Jr. and Polly Pope Rainey; great-grandsons, Mason Green and Tyler Green; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Elwood Rainey of San Antonio, TX. Bud not only served his community during World War II, but continued that service, serving on numerous local boards. He was the first chairman of Dinwiddie County Water Authority, president of the Dinwiddie Farm Bureau, and chairman Appomattox Soil and Water Conservation District. After semi- retiring, he served as Postmaster at Sutherland for three years. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 6, at the Ocran United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gene C. Tatum and the Rev. Harry Byrd Jones officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cemetery Fund at Ocran United Methodist Church, 20807 Cox Road, Sutherland, VA 23885. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

So sorry to read about the death of Bud. Sorry we will be unable to attend services, we send our love and deepest sympathy. Mother and Daddy loved the entire Rainey family, you are in our prayers. Love Gertrude P. Givens and Robert F. Perins and families.
