David Wayne Surdam, 52, of Chesterfield County, passed away Friday, April 8, 2005. He was born the son of Juanita H. and the late Bernard A. Surdam. He was an employee of the Water Department at Petersburg and later transferred to Dinwiddie County as Chief Operator for the Water Authority for a total of 29 years. He is also survived by a sister Valerie Reid and husband Ronald; an aunt Helen Henry of Michigan; cousins Donna Pecht of Sutherland, Christine Gerbel of California, Michael Keatts of Michigan, Frank Keatts of Michigan, and Howard Dunn of Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with interment to follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com

Wayne conducted many, many tours of the Courthouse Wastewater Treatment Plant for me and my students at Dinwiddie County High School. Some of my students remembered him and were saddened by the accident. Some of the students remembered his blue sports car. I am overwhelmed by the loss. I enjoyed working with him - his patience, flexibility on scheduling, friendly demeanor. As I continue the educational tours of the facility, he will be sorely missed. I treasure the years that we worked together. He was a great man.

I had the pleasure of working with Wayne at City Hall during the late 70's early 80's. Such a delightful person. The family has my deepest sympathy. God Bless....Dianne Harley
