Monday, March 14, 2005

Dennis Beierschmitt passed away from heart complications on March 14, 2005. Born in Pennsylvania in 1950, Dennis grew up in Virginia and North Carolina. He met his wife Caroline in their early teens and they were married 35 years. He taught German and other subjects for 30 years at Thomas Dale High School, where both his children attended. He supported youth sports through the YMCA and as Thomas Dale’s first soccer coach. An active cyclist, he was a familiar figure riding throughout Chester and supported or participated in many charity rides. He and Caroline attended The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond where they were active in peace, justice and equality efforts. Dennis was devoted to his wife Caroline, son Ridley, daughter Stefanie, nephew Chris and to his extended community of family and friends in Virginia, North Carolina, California, and Maryland. A visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. There will be a Memorial Service at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond on Saturday at 10 AM. To honor his life, donations may be made to the Fan Free Clinic and The First Unitarian Universalist Church. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

Condolences

I am writing to share my sympathy with Dennis Beierschmitt's family. The family does not know me, but I am a Radiology student at Southside Regional Medical Center and I was doing my clinical rotation at Chippenham in the Cath Lab on Monday March 14, 2005. Mr. Beierschmitt was the first patient/case/study I was observing that day. I just wanted the family to know that they are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sorry for there loss, but in just the short amount of time I could tell that Mr. Beierschmitt was a very sweet man, who seemed to love life and his family

I helped care for Mrs. Beierschmitt following Mr. Beierschmitt's passing, and I had the honor of meeting his children and extended family. My thoughts are with your family, your strength and compassion for Mrs. Beierschmitt was inspiring and I just hope I was some help in some way during your time of need.

Take care.

I moved to Chester from Pennsylvania just before my junior year of high school. Herr B's german class was the first place i felt safe and at home in chester. he never ignored a moment to make a joke and link himself indefinitely to his students. One could tell by how he talked about his family how much he loved all of you. I know we all listened to more than one heartfelt story about how he met you, Mrs. Beierschmitt, and how proud he was of his children. Because of Herr B I am planning to teach, and minoring in German studies. He was an amazing teacher and an irreplaceable man. You will all be in my prayers.

Mrs. Beierschmitt and Family,

Please accept the heartfelt condolences of the staff of the American Diabetes Association in the passing of your husband and father. He was an integral part of this organization's Tour de Cure event, and will be sorely missed for the energy and enthusiasm with which he shared his expertise and his love of cycling.

Dear Mrs. Bierschmitt, Petra and Family,

Mr. Bierschmitt was not only the most memorably kind hearted and patient of teachers, but inspiring beyond the norm. I'm still, after 17 years, studying a German thinker, in the German, at Oxford University. And a whole lot of the reason was embedded in that hot TD classroom with a great teacher who was also a fine human being. God rest your soul Herr B, and may your peace be with the family.

Yours,

Tom Price

To the Beierschmitt family,

I am a former student of Herr B. As a Department-of-Defense brat, my family moved to the Richmond area prior to my sophomore year in high school. Herr B and his German program were a huge reason why we settled in the Thomas Dale district and not in Colonial Heights or elsewhwere in Chesterfield. We have never regretted that decision, as Herr B helped make my 3 years at TDHS a wonderful experience. He was a beloved teacher and, more importantly, a dear friend and cherished mentor. His teaching and friendship have influenced me until this day. He was one of the faces that made Thomas Dale great, and he was one of the personalities that made Chester a special place to live. I miss him so much.

You guys are in my prayers,

Dear Mrs. Beierschmitt and Family;

Herr B. changed my life by telling me about a scholarship that sent me to Germany for one year. I am now persuing a career in international relations, something I never would have done before. I am so glad that I was able to go see him a few times at Thomas Dale earlier this year to tell him about my experiences, speak to 2 of his classes and share some laughs about the German vs. American culture-- and I know you know a lot about Germany as well, Mrs. Beierschmitt. I also really appreciated how he (you both) supported the drama department at Thomas Dale. I always had the feeling he was proud of me, which meant more than he ever knew. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time, and if nothing else, please know that your husband/father has a lot to do with who I am today. I really hope that I made that clear to him that last time I saw him. Herr B. werde ich nie vergessen.

Dear Mrs. Beierschmitt and family,
I am very sorry for your loss. I was in Herr Beierschmitt's German class for 4 years. He was a great teacher, and because of that German was always my favorite class. I really appreciated his enthusiasm for Germany and the time he spent making German club fun for the students. He will always be remembered by many people.
Sincerely, Stacy Day

I may not know him up close but times we did talk and just by his personality himself makes him really special into my heart, your heart, and all of our hearts. I am 1st Pd Clinc Aide so i been up to his class many of times but right now times he is gone i still dont believe he is dead and he is alive within our hearts. When i heard about passing away thinking that no one would in TDHS that he was never a man that will give up on anything. For all those students from Freshmen to Seniors please do remember what he taught you and make it special usuage inside you. that everything you may think and do will be worth every time he taught you and apprectiation from you to him. All those that is gone and graduated do also store his teaching because if you forget about then you will forget about the pointers he has given you. My brother is a gift, yet no gift should be thrown by all no means but will be stored in us forever and forever where ever he is right now he will be really proud for you and for all those he loved. take time to give thanks to his wife after all these years she took care of him, Mr B is a tressure that will never be thrown but will be kept closley to all of our hearts. ~ Mark

Herr Beirschmitt was the best teacher that both of our children ( David and Rebecca) had at TDHS. They got more than a foreign language background from Herr Beirschmitt. He taught life lessons freely and lived all that he taught. David,III continued German at Hampden-Sydney which led him to visit Germany. Rebecca also used German at Mary Baldwin by tutoring at the local high school. We will always remember picking up trash on Route 10 -- Herr Beirschmitt led by example....You and your family will be in our prayers....David, Jr., Mary, Rebecca, and David, III

Dear Mrs. Beierschmidt and Family -

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Herr Beierschmitt was my German teacher for three years, and I also went bike riding with him some weekends. It is a shame that he died at such a young age. He will be missed.

Dear Beierschmitt Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I had Mr. Beierschmitt as a German 3 student this year. We all miss him so much. It is very hard going into his classroom and not hearing a very cheerful, "Guten Tag, Klasse!" You will always be in our hearts.

Mrs. Beierschmitt and Family,
I amd very sorry for your loss. I only briefly met Dennis and he seemed so friendly and had a wonderful smile. He was truly devoted to Caroline and family. She talked often about him and the fun they had. I often thought, we all should be so lucky to have a relationship like they have. May you find comfort in the memories you have created.

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to you and your family on the passing of Mr. Beierschmidt. I was lucky enough to have been his student for all my 4 years at Thomas Dale. Son John Todd considered Herr Beierschmitt
his finest teacher when he graduated from Thomas Dale HS in 1978. John majored in German at UVA.

It is with a heavy heart that I learned of the passing of Dennis Beierschmitt. As my German teacher and German Club Sponsor, he was certainly one of my favorite teachers at Thomas Dale. He was also my first soccer (fusball) coach at Dale and I cherish the memories of those days. He will be missed by everyone.

Auf Wiedersehen mein Freund. Gott ist mit Ihnen.
