Vest, Howard R.

Mr. Howard Ryland Vest, 88, formerly of Waynesboro, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, Harrisonburg, Virginia. Mr. Vest was born June 17, 1916 in Ettrick, Virginia, the son of the late Eddie Howard and Florence Sadler Vest. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hawks Vest, a brother, William L. Vest, and a sister Arrie Jane Vest Whitmore. Mr. Vest was retired from DuPont after 43 years of service. He began employment at the Spruance Plant in Richmond, Virginia and moved to Waynesboro in 1961 to help start the Lycra facility. He is survived by his three sons, their wives and children: Dr. Howard Ryland Vest, Jr. and his wife, Andrea of Hillsborough, NC, Dr. Wayne Dudley Vest and wife, Anne of Waynesboro, and Dr. Timothy Keith Vest and his wife Teresa of Harrisonburg; six grandchildren, Howard Ryland Vest III, Katherine Bennett Vest, Dudley Cabell Vest, Anne-Iverson Vest Scott, Brian Andrew Vest and Erin Elizabeth Vest; one great-grandchild, Taylor Anne Vest; and a sister, Charlotte Vest Ferguson of St. Augustine, Florida. A graveside service will be held in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 W. Broad St., Waynesboro, VA 22980 or the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Inc., 96 Laurel Hill Road, Verona, VA 24482. The family is being served by J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, VA.
